Enjoy this good old Japanese American tradition of “Chinameshi” brought to you by Chef John Nishio and the Grateful Crane Ensemble. Through sharing these classic Cantonese favorites, our hope is that the food will bring back memories of our Issei and Nisei family members sitting around the table eating, drinking, and sharing stories. The evening includes a JA historic video prepared by Chef John Nishio, a tour of a Japanese garden, and live music provided by GCE performers to make for a fun, nostalgic and meaningful evening.
Half of the evening’s profits will go toward the Fukushima bottled water project through the Association for Aid and Relief, Japan. During GCE’s visit to Tohoku in 2016, we learned about this bottled water project in Fukushima, where they have been providing safe, clean drinking water to kindergartens. Due to fears of radiation contamination in the tap water, local parents expressed a strong desire for their kids to drink safe bottled water. For the past few years, AAR has been providing it. GCE hopes to continue the tradition of our Issei and Nisei ancestors of giving back to Japan and your presence at this event will help.
